Shown on the left of the picture is Jack ‘Lofty’ Waters, who recently passed away in Canada. The image was taken in 1951 and submitted to us by his family in memory of Jack, who, according to his brother Eric, was immensely proud of the fact that he formed part of the contingent from The Royal Sussex Regiment that lined the route of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II coronation parade in 1953. Jack joined the Royal Sussex as a Territorial and served in the signals section of HQ Company  at St. Leonards, leaving the Army in 1954/55 and making a new life in Canada with his wife, who sadly pre-deceased him, and their three children.  Jack was 94 when he passed away in Vancouver and leaves both grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jack’s brother Eric, who also served in The Regiment, wanted to do something to remember Jack by and his was the first donation into the recently launched Royal Sussex Museum Fund. The ‘Donate’ page explains the objects of this fund in more detail.
